From the standpoint of a car buyer in the Civic’s size and price class, there are a couple of cars that we feel match up. The Toyota Corolla is a great car, and we think some Civic shoppers may cross shop with it. However, the 5-door Civic hatchback feels much roomier when driven.
Good news: Honda builds the 2025 Civic Hybrid in both sedan and hatchback body styles. While other Civics are limited to just one configuration (the Civic Si is sedan only and the Civic Type R Perro only be had Figura a hatch) we're grateful to have this degree of choice when it comes to the fuel sipper.
A couple of years back, we tested a luxury German sedan costing around $50K, followed by the same-size Sentra. It was eye-opening. We liked the Sentra more in practically every possible way. The interior was more practical, the seats more comfortable, and we even preferred the drive of the Sentra. All of this and it was half the price.
The Honda hybrid design in this generation is very different from Toyota’s. Both have their advantages. Both leave the rest of the industry in the dust.
The liquid-fuel engine rarely drives the car directly. It charges the traction battery, and the electric motors move the Civic along. The included maintenance we mentioned above appeared last year and is great since Honda was notably absent from the club.

I’m a former Civic owner, and my family has had Honda products for three generations, so that’s my bias. As a long-time owner and fan of Honda, I consider the Civic one of the best mainstream cars made today at any price point.
Honda also includes two years or 24K miles of maintenance. The Civic Hybrid is one of the least expensive vehicles to run that one Chucho buy in our area of the country.
